General Overview of Frosmoth

Frosmoth is an Ice and Bug-type Pokémon introduced in the eighth generation. Its Japanese name is モスノウ. Its dual typing gives it a very particular position in the Pokédex, both in battle strategy and for trading card collectors. Frosmoth is the direct evolution of Snom, obtained by leveling up under certain nighttime conditions. Its appearance evokes a large white butterfly covered in icy scales, perfectly in keeping with its snow and ice theme.

Type and General Characteristics

The combination of Ice and Bug typing gives Frosmoth interesting offensive strengths but also several significant weaknesses. This Pokémon is vulnerable to Fire, Rock, Steel, and Flying-type attacks, which requires careful planning in battle. In return, its Ice-type moves deal heavy damage to Dragon, Ground, and Grass types, making it useful against specific opponents.

Frosmoth's base stats are oriented toward Special Attack and Special Defense. Its HP remains relatively low, often around 70, which forces it to avoid direct physical hits. Its decent Speed nonetheless allows it to move before certain opponents.

Stats and Battle Role

Frosmoth's stats make it a rather technical Pokémon. It is not designed to take hits for long, but to deal fast, heavy damage with powerful special moves. Its dual typing allows it to catch poorly prepared opponents off guard, especially in teams oriented around control or support.

Strategically, Frosmoth is often used as a long-range Ice-type attacker. It can also benefit from Abilities that reduce damage taken from special moves, slightly improving its survivability against certain opposing types. A good EV spread in Special Attack and Speed is generally preferred to maximize its effectiveness.

Key Moves and Useful Moves

Frosmoth has an interesting move pool for players. It can learn powerful Ice-type moves capable of slowing down or quickly knocking out an opponent. Bug-type moves provide additional coverage against Psychic and Dark types.

  • High-damage potential Ice-type moves

  • Useful Bug-type moves for coverage

  • Support moves that can lower the opponent's stats

This move set allows Frosmoth to adapt to several situations, particularly in single or double battle formats, though its lack of bulk calls for careful management.

Evolution and How to Obtain

Frosmoth is the evolution of Snom. To trigger the evolution, Snom must level up during the night, adding an interesting constraint for players looking to complete their Pokédex. This evolution mechanic reinforces the Pokémon's identity, tied to cold and darkness.

In recent games such as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Frosmoth can be encountered in snowy areas or obtained through evolution. Its Pokédex number and relative rarity make it a sought-after target for methodical Trainers.

Frosmoth in the Pokémon Trading Card Game

Frosmoth also exists as a Pokémon card, with several editions showcasing its elegant white and icy aesthetic. Frosmoth cards are sought after for their graceful design and connection to the Ice type. Some versions display around 70 HP and special moves themed around snow and cold.

For collectors, the price of a Frosmoth card varies depending on rarity, expansion, and condition. Alternate art or shiny versions can reach higher values, especially when well preserved. This makes Frosmoth an interesting Pokémon for both play and collection.
