Detailed information
General overview of Mega Staraptor
Its Pokédex entry in Pokémon Legends: Z-A states that its flying prowess is unmatched and that it can cross the sky effortlessly while carrying a Steelix weighing over 400 kg. This data perfectly illustrates the raw power that this Mega Evolution brings to this raptor Pokémon.
Appearance of Mega Staraptor
The transformation considerably changes Staraptor's appearance. Its plumage becomes much lighter and thicker. The crest of feathers above its head is longer, with three upright feathers visible on its flank. The white marking around the throat and chest extends further, and the feathers of the tuft encircling the back of its head have red tips.
Its tail is composed of several feathers of the same color as its main plumage, each bearing two yellow marks. The wings are much more voluminous, their feathers are black and bear three clearly visible yellow marks. The chest displays six white feathers stemming from the original marking. A black spot is found on its beak and its legs are larger and more hooked.
In its Shiny form, the gray plumage turns cream-colored, the talons become brown and the crest feathers take on a blue hue.

Mega Evolution obtained with the Staraptorite
The complete evolution chain is as follows:
Starly evolves into Staravia at level 14
Staravia evolves into Staraptor at level 34
Staraptor Mega Evolves into Mega Staraptor with the Staraptorite
The type change from Normal to Fighting modifies the Pokémon's weaknesses and resistances in battle. Mega Staraptor notably becomes vulnerable to Electric, Ice, Psychic and Fairy types, but gains additional resistances thanks to the Fighting type.
Strategic use in battle
Mega Staraptor is designed to function as a physical attacker that is very fast. Speed and Attack are the most important stats to exploit. EVs are generally invested in Attack and Speed to maximize its role as a physical sweeper capable of acting before the opponent.
The most commonly used moves in a competitive context:
Brave Bird - powerful Flying move, ideal for dealing heavy damage
Close Combat - directly benefits from the new Fighting type to cover more targets
U-turn - allows you to maintain control of the battle's pace
Protect - defensive option to gain in durability
Its Fighting type also allows it to cover Normal, Rock or Steel type Pokémon that previously resisted its Normal moves. It is an interesting strategic choice in teams oriented toward fast offense.
Mega Staraptor in the Pokémon Trading Card Game
To date, no Pokémon TCG card depicts Mega Staraptor. This Mega form having originated from Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a recent game, collectors will have to wait and see whether a card will be released in upcoming expansions. The base evolution line with Starly, Staravia and Staraptor already has several cards across different generations of expansions, but the Mega form remains absent from the catalog for now.
