Mega Metagross

Mega Metagross, known in Japanese as メガメタグロス, is the Mega Evolution of Metagross. This dual Steel and Psychic type Pokémon made its appearance with the games Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. It represents the culmination of the evolutionary line beginning with Beldum, then Metang, then Metagross, before reaching this ultimate form thanks to the Metagrossite.

Detailed information

General overview of Mega Metagross

The complete evolutionary line of Mega Metagross follows this path:

  • Beldum evolves into Metang starting from level 20

  • Metang evolves into Metagross starting from level 45

  • Metagross transforms into Mega Metagross via the Metagrossite in battle

The Metagrossite is therefore the essential item to trigger this Mega Evolution. This transformation is temporary and only active during a battle.

Stats and characteristics of Mega Metagross

Mega Metagross's base stats are among the highest of all non-legendary Pokémon. Physical Attack is particularly impressive, making it a top-tier physical attacker. Defense remains very solid, and Speed increases significantly compared to Metagross's base form.

  • Type: Steel and Psychic

  • Weight: 942.9 kg - it is the heaviest non-legendary Pokémon in the Pokédex

  • Ability: Tough Claws, which increases the power of all contact moves

  • Generation: sixth generation

The Tough Claws ability is particularly interesting as it directly boosts contact moves, which perfectly matches this Pokémon's offensive profile. In terms of EVs, a distribution oriented toward Attack and Speed allows you to fully exploit this offensive potential.

Moves and use in battle

Mega Metagross has an excellent pool of moves suited to its physical attacker profile. Its main options include:

  • Meteor Mash, a very powerful Steel-type move that benefits from the type bonus and the Tough Claws ability

  • Zen Headbutt to exploit the Psychic type and cover various opponents

  • Earthquake to target Fire and Electric Pokémon that resist Steel

  • Metal Claw as an alternative to lower the opponent's Defense

In a classic strategic build, Mega Metagross is used as the main physical attacker, capable of putting immediate pressure from the moment it enters battle. Its many resistances linked to the Steel and Psychic types allow it to stay in the game for several turns.

Mega Metagross in the Trading Card Game

In the Pokémon TCG, Mega Metagross cards are among the most sought after by collectors. These cards showcase the Pokémon's spectacular design with its eight limbs and enormous claws. Shiny versions are particularly prized: in its shiny form, the body becomes silver, the claws and spike are gold, and the frontal cross turns blue.

For TCG players, Mega Metagross cards fit into decks built around Steel or Psychic Pokémon. Their attacks generally require multiple Energy but deal considerable damage. Cards from the complete evolutionary line - Beldum, Metang, Metagross, and Mega Metagross - are also sought after by players wishing to build a cohesive deck around this family.
