General overview of Feebas
Feebas is a Water type Pokémon, known as one of the weakest-looking Pokémon in the game, yet also one of the most interesting to evolve. Its English name is Feebas and its Japanese name is ヒンバス. Introduced in the Hoenn region, Feebas is often associated with lakes and hard-to-reach fishing spots, making it a rare Pokémon despite its very low base stats.
In the Pokédex, Feebas is described as a fish Pokémon living in poor and murky waters. For players, it mainly represents a challenge in terms of capture and evolution, as it requires a specific mechanic tied to beauty or trading depending on the generation.
Base stats and nature
Feebas's base stats are among the lowest in the game. Its HP, Defense, and Speed are very limited, making it barely viable in direct battle. Its Attack and Special Attack are also low, which explains why Feebas is rarely used as is.
Nature has little impact on Feebas before its evolution, but it becomes important if the goal is to optimize Milotic after evolving. Players often plan ahead from the moment of capture to avoid long-term mistakes.
Moves and list of abilities
Feebas has a very limited moveset. It mainly learns low-power Water moves like Splash or utility attacks. As it levels up, it gains no significant offensive bonus.
Basic Water moves suited to the early game
Support moves with low damage output
Limited access to TMs and HMs depending on the generation
These moves make Feebas unimpressive in battle, but they are enough to progress toward its evolution.
Feebas's evolution
Evolution is the central point of Feebas. Evolving Feebas yields Milotic, a very powerful Water type Pokémon. Depending on the game, the evolution relies on different mechanics.
In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, evolution depends on the Beauty stat. Feebas must be fed specific Pokéblocks before leveling up. In Diamond, Pearl, and White, evolution is achieved by trading while holding a specific scale item.
This mechanic makes Feebas unique and encourages players to plan its evolution carefully.
Capture and location
Catching Feebas is notoriously difficult. It appears only on specific fishing tiles in particular lakes, with a very low rate. A fishing rod is essential, and it often takes fishing on many tiles before finding one.
In Hoenn, Feebas is found in a specific lake with a limited number of valid tiles that change regularly. This rarity explains why Feebas is highly sought after by collectors and strategic players.
In-game use and possible counters
Feebas is not designed for battle. It serves primarily as the foundation for a strategic evolution. Once evolved, it becomes extremely resilient and difficult to counter, but until then it remains vulnerable to almost every type.
Experienced players treat Feebas as a long-term investment, accepting its temporary weakness in exchange for a massive gain after evolution.
Feebas in the cards and collection
In the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Feebas is often represented as a basic Pokémon with few HP and symbolic attacks. These cards are mainly used to complete sets or to prepare the evolution into Milotic.
Feebas is appreciated by collectors for the contrast between its frail appearance and its high potential, making it an iconic Pokémon embodying patience and strategy.
