Overview of Escavalier

Escavalier is a Bug and Steel-type Pokémon introduced in the Unova region. Its English name is Escavalier and its Japanese name is シュバルゴ. This Pokémon stands out for its appearance of a heavily armored knight, using lances formed by its arms to strike opponents with great power. Escavalier is the evolution of Shelmet, but only through a specific trade involving Karrablast, making it a particularly unusual Pokémon to obtain in the Pokédex.

Thanks to its Steel type, Escavalier benefits from excellent overall resistance and access to very powerful physical moves. It is especially appreciated by players looking for a solid offensive Pokémon for strategic battles.

Type and weaknesses of Escavalier

Escavalier has the dual Bug and Steel typing. This combination provides numerous resistances, particularly against Normal, Grass, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, and Steel. However, it remains vulnerable to certain specific types that can exploit its low Speed.

  • Main weakness: Fire

  • Notable resistances: Normal, Grass, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, Steel, Bug

  • Partial immunity: Poison

Its single major weakness to Fire makes it susceptible to powerful special moves, requiring good team support in battle.

Base stats and battle potential

Escavalier has stats oriented toward physical Attack and Defense. Its base Attack stat is very high, allowing it to deal significant damage right from the moment it enters the field. Its HP and Defense are decent, reinforcing its role as a tough fighter.

Its Speed, however, is very low, making it a slow Pokémon. It is often used on teams that compensate for this, for example under Trick Room, in order to offset this weakness and fully exploit its raw power.

Evolution and how to obtain it in the Pokédex

Escavalier's evolution is unique in the Pokémon universe. Shelmet evolves into Escavalier only when traded alongside Karrablast. During this trade, Karrablast evolves in turn into Accelgor, making this process highly sought after by players wishing to complete their Pokédex.

Escavalier cannot be found in the wild in most games, which increases its rarity. It is therefore usually obtained through trading or breeding after completing this specific evolution.

Moves and effective movesets

Escavalier has an excellent pool of physical moves, primarily focused on Bug and Steel types. It is capable of learning very powerful moves that make the most of its Attack stat.

  • Megahorn to deal heavy Bug-type damage

  • Iron Head to benefit from Steel STAB

  • Counter to surprise physical attackers

  • Sacred Sword to cover other resistant types

These moves make Escavalier an excellent wall-breaker, capable of putting many opposing Pokémon under pressure despite its low Speed.

Escavalier in competitive play and cards

In competitive play, Escavalier is primarily used as a slow but extremely powerful physical attacker. It finds its place on well-built teams, particularly alongside Pokémon capable of handling Fire types.

On the collectible card side, Escavalier is often depicted as an offensive Pokémon with high-damage moves and armor evoking its role as a knight. Its cards emphasize its durability and its ability to land decisive blows, making it appreciated by collectors and TCG players alike.
