General overview of Electrike

Electrike is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in the third generation. It is known by its Japanese name ライボルト. Electrike evolves directly into Manectric at a certain level, making it a central creature in many teams built around Speed and Special Attack.

In the Pokédex, Electrike is described as a Pokémon capable of storing electricity in its fur and releasing it in the form of lightning strikes. This description highlights its direct connection to electricity and explains its offensive effectiveness in fast-paced battles.

Typing and battle role

Electrike has the Electric type only. This type allows it to deal heavy damage to Water- and Flying-type Pokémon, while remaining vulnerable to Ground-type attacks. Its main role is that of a fast attacker, capable of striking first thanks to an excellent base Speed.

In strategic battles, Electrike is often used to pressure the opponent with powerful and consistent electric attacks. Its access to several special moves makes it a good choice to surprise poorly prepared teams.

Base stats and potential

Electrike's stats are oriented toward Special Attack and Speed. Its HP remains decent without being exceptional, while its physical Defense is rather low. This means it must avoid taking too many strong direct hits.

  • High Special Attack to exploit electric power

  • Very solid Speed to act before the opponent

  • Average to low Defense requiring good anticipation

With a good EV distribution in Special Attack and Speed, Electrike can become a serious threat from the mid-game onward.

Main moves and abilities

Electrike has a wide selection of Electric-type moves, allowing it to adapt to different situations. Thunderbolt and Thunder Shock are often prioritized for their power and reliability. Spark is an accessible move available earlier, useful when progressing through Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald.

  • Thunderbolt for a stable and powerful Special Attack

  • Thunder Shock to maximize damage despite the risk of missing

  • Spark to deal damage and sometimes paralyze

Electrike can also learn certain TMs and HMs that allow it to cover other types, which improves its versatility in battle.

Evolution and progression in-game

Electrike evolves into Manectric at a specific level. This evolution marks a significant gain in stats, notably in Special Attack and Speed. In Ruby, Sapphire, and Platinum, this evolution occurs relatively early, making Manectric very attractive for the adventure.

Its number in the regional Pokédex varies depending on the version, but it remains easily identifiable thanks to its design inspired by storms and lightning.

Electrike in Pokémon cards

In the Trading Card Game, Electrike exists in several forms with different values and power levels. Some cards highlight its speed and its fast electric attacks, while others exploit mechanics tied to Electric energy.

These cards are appreciated for their ability to deal quick damage and fit into Electricity-oriented decks. Electrike thus remains a consistent choice both in the video games and in the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
