General overview of Drifblim
Drifblim is a Ghost and Flying-type Pokémon introduced in the fourth generation. Its English name is Drifblim and its Japanese name is フワライド. This Pokémon is the direct evolution of Drifloon starting at level 28, making it an evolution accessible fairly early for players progressing through the adventure. Drifblim stands out for its imposing size and its appearance as a giant balloon, drifting silently above the ground.
In the Pokédex, Drifblim is listed as a Pokémon capable of carrying living beings by sweeping them into the air. This identity is reflected in its gameplay, which revolves around an exceptionally large HP pool and a combat style based on attrition, control, and progressive damage. Pokédex entries often highlight its mysterious behavior and its connection to the spirit world.
Drifblim's stats and base values
Drifblim has a very particular set of base stats. Its main asset lies in its extremely high HP, among the highest for a Ghost-type Pokémon. This characteristic allows it to stay in battle for a long time, both in solo play and in competitive battles.
In contrast, its pure defensive stats remain average, meaning Drifblim must rely on its HP, resistances, and abilities to survive. Its Attack and Special Attack are decent without being exceptional, while its Speed is sufficient to surprise certain opponents but remains dependent on the chosen nature and EV investment.
Type, weaknesses, and resistances
The dual Ghost and Flying type gives Drifblim interesting advantages in battle. It is completely immune to Normal and Fighting-type attacks, allowing it to counter certain heavily-used Pokémon. It also resists Poison and Bug-type attacks, reinforcing its defensive role.
In return, Drifblim has notable weaknesses to Dark, Ghost, Rock, Electric, and Ice-type attacks. These weaknesses must be taken into account when building a balanced team, especially when facing opponents capable of hitting hard on the special side.
Moves and strategic options
Drifblim has a wide range of Ghost and Flying-type attacks, as well as highly appreciated utility moves. It can learn moves such as Shadow Ball, Hex, or Astonish to deal consistent damage while exploiting its HP pool. Certain Fire or Psychic-type moves can also broaden its offensive coverage depending on the generation.
Thanks to access to support moves like Bulk Up, Fire Blast, or Explosion, Drifblim can be played aggressively or defensively. Explosion in particular benefits enormously from its high HP and can turn a battle around at a key moment. TMs and move tutors allow Drifblim to be adapted to different playstyles.
Use in battle and recommended items
In battle, Drifblim is often used as a harassing or stalling Pokémon. Its role is to wear down the opponent, force switches, or exploit its immunities to secure free turns. It is particularly effective against Fighting or Normal-oriented Pokémon.
On the items side, choices like Leftovers, Life Orb, or damage-reducing Berries can enhance its longevity or power. Depending on the nature and EV spread, Drifblim can adapt to many formats, from standard play to more strategic battles.
Drifblim in games and cards
Drifblim is present in many games in the franchise, notably Diamond, Pearl, Platinum and their remakes, as well as in Pokémon Violet. In the games, it is often associated with mysterious or nocturnal areas, reinforcing its identity as a Ghost-type Pokémon.
In the Trading Card Game, Drifblim appears regularly in the form of cards centered on high HP and disruptive effects. These cards find their place in certain control or attrition-oriented decks, making it a Pokémon appreciated by players and collectors alike.
