General overview of Cradily

Cradily is a Grass and Rock type Pokémon introduced in the third generation. Its English name is Cradily and its Japanese name is ユレイドル. It is the direct evolution of Lileep, an ancient fossil revived from the Root Fossil. Cradily is a Pokémon with a distinctive design inspired by prehistoric marine organisms that lived in shallow, warm seas. It is often associated with shallow tidal flats when the tide recedes, during which time it hunts its prey.

Cradily is particularly valued by players for its defensive profile and its ability to absorb heavy damage. It has a base stat spread oriented toward Defense and Special Defense, making it a solid choice in long or strategic battles. Its Grass typing allows it to handle Water attacks well, which are very common in battle.

Base stats and battle potential

Cradily's base stats highlight excellent Defense and strong overall endurance. Its decent HP, combined with its high Defenses, lets it withstand many attacks. However, its Speed remains low, which often requires anticipating the opponent's moves or playing in control-oriented teams.

At max level, Cradily becomes particularly difficult to knock out without a super effective attack. In battle, it is often used as a defensive wall or as a support Pokémon capable of wearing down the opponent over time. Its natural resistance to sandstorm is also a noteworthy asset in sand team builds.

Types, weaknesses, and resistances

The dual Grass and Rock typing gives Cradily useful resistances, notably against Water and Normal attacks. However, it remains vulnerable to several common types such as Fighting, Fire, and Steel. A good understanding of matchups is therefore essential for using it effectively.

Thanks to its solid defenses, Cradily can sometimes absorb a non-optimal hit even if it is super effective. This makes it a reliable Pokémon for stalling and landing control attacks or gradual damage.

Moves and recommended strategies

Cradily has a wide range of moves based on the Grass and Rock types. Its tentacles are central to its combat style, allowing it to grab prey and weaken them progressively. It can learn moves like Giga Drain to recover HP or Stone Edge to deal heavy physical damage.

On the Special Attack side, Cradily can also surprise with Water or Ground moves via TMs, offering useful coverage against certain types. Support moves are also frequently used to enhance its longevity on the field.

Use in Pokémon GO and raids

In Pokémon GO, Cradily is mainly used as a defender or in specific raids. Its maximum CP remains decent without being exceptional, but its durability allows it to last longer than many other Grass type Pokémon. It is most interesting for players looking for an endurance-focused Pokémon rather than a pure attacker.

Its charged Grass attack is effective against Water type Pokémon frequently found in raids, giving it situational and worthwhile utility.

Additional information and collection

Cradily comes from a fossil, which adds to its appeal for collectors and fans of a complete Pokédex. Breeding is possible once it has been revived, allowing players to optimize its IVs and nature for battle. Its relatively large size and weight reinforce its identity as an ancient creature adapted to prehistoric seas.

In the Pokémon card game, Cradily is often depicted with its tentacles spread, ready to catch unsuspecting prey. It remains a Pokémon appreciated for its originality, its resilience, and its strategic role in many teams.
