General overview of Comfey
Comfey is a Fairy-type Pokémon introduced in the seventh generation. Its French name is Guérilande and its Japanese name is キュワワー. Comfey stands out for its very particular role in battle, oriented almost exclusively toward support and healing rather than direct attack. It is often used in Pokémon games to secure a team thanks to its defensive capabilities and status-altering effects.
In the Pokédex, Comfey is known for wrapping around its allies using its flowers in order to protect and heal them. This mechanic is perfectly reflected in battle, where it excels in strategies based on duration, protection, and HP recovery.
Base stats and battle profile
Comfey's base stats are unusual. It has very few max HP and an almost nonexistent physical Attack. However, its Special Defense is decent and its Speed is relatively high, allowing it to act before many opponents. Its Special Attack remains low, confirming its non-offensive role.
Low HP, compensated by healing moves
Very low Attack and Special Attack
Good Speed for a support Pokémon
Decent Special Defense for absorbing special attacks
Comfey is therefore not designed to deal damage. In strategic battles, it serves primarily to keep its allies alive and disrupt the opposing team.
Type, weaknesses, and resistances
Comfey is solely Fairy-type. This type grants it excellent resistance against Dragon, Fighting, and Dark attacks. However, it remains vulnerable to Steel and Poison attacks, which requires good anticipation in battles.
Thanks to its type, Comfey fits very well into defensive or control-oriented teams, particularly in Pokémon Sun, Moon, Scarlet, and Violet.
Abilities and strategic utility
Comfey's main asset lies in its Flower Gift ability, which boosts the Defense of allied Grass-type Pokémon on the field. This ability comes into its own in teams built around Grassy Terrain or Defense-focused Grass-type Pokémon.
In advanced strategy, Comfey is often paired with items that enhance healing or survivability, in order to maximize its impact over the course of a battle.
Key moves and useful attacks
Almost all of Comfey's moves are oriented toward healing, protection, or status conditions. It naturally learns moves allowing it to heal its allies, protect itself, and hinder the opponent.
Draining Kiss to recover HP
Floral Healing to heal an ally
Protect to stall for time
Trick Room or Taunt depending on the game
These moves make Comfey a formidable Pokémon in double battles and support-oriented competitive formats.
Comfey in games and cards
In the Pokémon games, Comfey is rarely used solo but becomes extremely effective as part of a team. It appears in several recent generations and remains appreciated for its unique playstyle.
On the Pokémon card side, Comfey exists in several versions, often focused on healing or support, with effects allowing HP to be restored or the bench to be protected. These cards are of particular interest to players who enjoy defensive and strategic decks.
Comfey is therefore a niche Pokémon, but extremely valuable for players who master tactical battles and duration-based strategies.
