General overview of Carbink
Carbink is a Pokémon of the Rock and Fairy type, known in Japanese as カルボウ. Introduced in the sixth generation, this Pokémon is primarily oriented toward defense and support, making it a distinctive option for players looking for a solid wall rather than a conventional attacker. Its Pokédex number is 703.
Carbink lives mainly in caves and rocky areas rich in stones and gems. Its body is made up of rock formations and a central gem that channels its energy. Despite being light for a Rock type Pokémon and quite small in stature, it surprises opponents with its ability to absorb a great deal of damage even with around 50 base HP.
Typing, stats, and strategic foundation
Typing and resistances
Carbink's dual Rock and Fairy typing gives it a very interesting defensive profile. It has numerous resistances, particularly against Fire, Normal, Bug, Dark, and Flying types. Thanks to its Fairy typing, it also resists Dragon type attacks, which is valuable in certain strategic battles.
That said, Carbink remains vulnerable to Ground, Steel, and Water type attacks - important weaknesses to anticipate in battles and raids.
Base stats
Carbink's base stats are clearly geared toward Defense and Special Defense. Its Attack and Speed are low, which limits its role as a direct attacker. However, its very high Defense allows it to stay on the field for a long time, particularly in strategic battles or when supporting a team.
Its nature is often chosen to further boost Defense or Special Defense, optimizing its role as a wall.
Useful moves and abilities
Main moves
Carbink has a move set focused on control and moderate damage. It can learn Rock Slide, a reliable Rock type move with solid accuracy, ideal for hitting multiple opponents in certain formats.
On the Fairy side, Moonblast is one of its most useful attacks, dealing decent damage while having a chance to lower the opponent's Special Attack. Power Gem lets it tap into the energy of its central gem to deal consistent damage.
Moves and TMs
- Rock Slide for Rock type pressure
- Moonblast for Fairy type coverage
- Power Gem for steady, reliable damage
- Light Screen and Protect for team support
Through TMs, Carbink can also learn utility moves that reinforce its place on a defensive team, particularly for reducing damage taken by its allies.
Catching and in-game information
Catch rate and locations
Carbink's catch rate is relatively low, which reflects its status as a rare Pokémon found in specific caves. It is often encountered in rocky or underground areas, sometimes only after an extended period of random encounters.
In some games, it can be obtained more easily through events or trades. It also appears in Pokémon GO, where it is mainly sought after for its resistances and its distinctive design.
Use for players and collectors
Carbink does not evolve, making it a single-form Pokémon appreciated by card collectors and players looking for a specific role. Its Pokédex entry highlights its mineral origins and its connection to ancient gems.
In competitive play, it is rarely used as a primary attacker, but it finds its place as a defensive wall or support, capable of stalling out battles and gradually wearing down the opponent over time.
